Our recommended walks in Cheltenham
Why not bring your furry friends to stay with us at Cheltenham Chase? We love hosting your pet pooches and with so many trails nearby, they’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to walkies.
Leckhampton Loop
12 minute drive | Time: 2 - 3 hours approx
See the Devil’s Chimney. Is it a demon finger emerging from the underworld, Beelzebub's blow hole from below, or something nowhere near as sinister? Local legend says an evil resident is buried under the unusual limestone formation on the Leckhampton Loop. Why not see it for yourself and make up your own mind?
Dogs are welcome but may need to be kept on leads.
Cranham, Coopers and the Beechwoods
6 minute drive | Time: 2 - 3 hours approx
More stroll than roll. Coopers Hill may be famous for cheese-chasing daredevils, but this circular route gives ramblers a chance to see a calmer side of the Cotswolds. Keep an eye out for deer, badgers and weasels at the largest nature reserve in the region and get your camera at the ready for a blanket of bluebells in May.
Dogs are welcome but may need to be kept on leads.
Cleeve Hill Common
30 minute drive | Time: 2 - 3 hours approx
A treat for tree lovers. The Cleeve Hill Common route tells a tale of three trees. From the two wind-swept trees affectionately known as ‘The Twins’ overlooking Cheltenham and Gloucester, to ‘The Single Beech’, the Cotswolds highest and loneliest tree that offers a 360-degree view of the hilltop landscape, there’s a picture-perfect photo opportunity at almost every turn.
Dogs are welcome but may need to be kept on leads.
Stinchcombe Hill
30 minute drive | Time: 2.5 hours approx
The Cotswolds with a Korean twist. This short, circular walk is twinned with a route in South Korea. One of the world’s first friendship trails is designed to promote tourism in both destinations but with the superb views from Stinchcombe Hill, there’s probably nowhere else you’d rather be.
Dogs are welcome but may need to be kept on leads.
Lineover Woods
12 minute drive | Time: 1 hour approx
Just outside Cheltenham, Lineover Wood offers a peaceful woodland escape within the Cotswold AONB. Tranquil paths wind through ancient beech, ash and lime trees, and open out onto limestone grassland with panoramic views across Cheltenham and the Malvern Hills. Whether you’re looking for a gentle walk or want to explore richer flora and butterflies, it’s ideal for a fresh-air interlude during your stay.
Ebworth Centre Cotswolds walk
8 minute drive | Time: 2-3 hour approx
High on the Cotswold scarp overlooking Gloucester and the Severn Vale, this circular walk through Crickley Hill and Ebworth Woods blends varied terrain, archaeological interest and sweeping views. Begin at the visitor centre and wander through beech-woodland and limestone grassland, perhaps spotting native wildlife or taking in the wide vistas.
Honeybourne Line
16 minute drive | Time: 1 hour approx
The Honeybourne Line is a leafy, traffic-free trail that follows the route of the old railway from Cheltenham Spa Rail Station to the Prince of Wales Stadium. Perfect for walkers, cyclists and families, the path is flat and accessible with play areas and nature spots along the way.
